Some spammer seems to have gotten in to my mail server and is sending spam out under a number of different @stevestr.org accounts. These are not valid accounts and the bounce notices just come back to me.I’m currently looking into it and I apologize if you have received spam from my domain. I’ll have to have a chat with the mail server admin and find out why the domain is not secured more tightly.Once again, please accept my apologies.

I’m Still Standing…

Posted in Personal on April 9th, 2009

Yes, I’m still alive and yes, I’ve been bad about updating this blog other than for emergency or crucial postings.

Life has been busy with a relocation back to San Diego from Irvine and getting settled in to my new digs. There’s also the horrible California, and USA, economy at the moment.

Just wanted to let everyone know that this website is not dead. Not yet, anyway.

SoCal 5.4 Quake: We’re OK

Posted in Quake, Personal on July 29th, 2008

I know it’s been a long time since I updated these pages but I just wanted to let everyone who has heard about the “Los Angeles” 5.4 Quake that struck today that we are safe and sound. It actually struck near Chino Hills which is a good 70 miles east of Los Angeles and a good deal east and north of both my work place and residence.

Below, a Google map should show up showing where the quake hit and where I live and work. The zig-zag is the epicenter of the quake. The blue car is where I work and the red bed is where I live. If you click on the epicenter it will take you to the official report of the quake from the United States Geologic Survey website:

Brian and I are both OK. There was no damage to the apartment and the freeways are operating normally. Cell towers may be full and it may be hard to reach us but we are OK and there was little damage anywhere from this quake.

It’s been a while…

Oh yeah, we survived the great fires. Sorry for not updating. Almost immediately after dealing with the fires I did a relocation to Irvine in Orange County. It’s definitely a change and I greatly miss San Diego. The relocation was due to a roommate getting a new job in “the OC.”  Stay tuned.

We’re Back

Posted in SoCal, fire, Personal on October 24th, 2007

Our area has been cleared for return and we’re back in San Diego.

Lots of ash on the porch but no other damage.

Thanks to those of who who emailed asking about our well-being.

As of tonight we’ve relocated to Buena Park in Orange County due to a mandatory evacuation of our area at 7:00 this evening.

We’ll probably be out of San Diego until at least Wednesday.

Wish us luck.

SoCal Wildfire Update

Posted in SoCal, fire, Personal on October 22nd, 2007

So far we’re ok here in San Diego. The closest evac area is about 2-3 miles north of me (the 56 Freeway) though so the car is packed and the cat carriers are out ready to go just in case.

In addition, it is very difficult at the moment to get SMS messages or phone calls OUT of the 858 area where we are located. I cannot get any inbound calls TO the 858 at all.

I am still available via email and Google Talk @ Stevestr.

To repeat, we’re still OK here in Torrey Hills but we are prepared to leave if we have to do so.

Ironic that this is the 4th anniversary of the great 2003 fires. These are worse and the fire is predicted to head west all the way to the Pacific Ocean.

*Most websites with fire updated information are jammed at the moment so I have not been able to update the map since last night.
